The National Museum of Pakistan is one of the important museums when we speak of galleries and museums in Pakistan. It is situated in Karachi. Built in the year 1950, the National Museum Of Pakistan was situated in the Free Hall Building of Karachi. This museum actually replaced the earlier existing Victoria Museum. The main aim of establishing the National Museum of Pakistan was to record, study, exhibit, preserve and also collect the cultural heritage of Pakistan.

Presently the National Museum of Pakistan is located in the Burns Garden which is very close to Dr. Zia ud din Road. The museum was shifted to this place in the year 1970. Though the museum started with four galleries, now it has developed nearly 11 galleries to boast of. Among these 11 galleries, the Quran Gallery is the most important gallery in the National Museum of Pakistan. The Quran gallery has a collection of 52 old manuscripts of Quran along with other 300 copies of Quran.
The National Museum of Pakistan has a collection of about 58,000 old coins which is a very interesting fact Most of these coins date back to 74 Al-Hijra. Other than this there are around 70,000 books, reading materials, publications which are the most important part of the cultural history of Pakistan. Another major attraction of the museum are the Metal ware which are decorated with floral designs. These are collected from various parts of the subcontinent. A large number of people are attracted towards the various exhibitions and shows which are arranged in the National Museum of Pakistan.
The National Museum of Pakistan also has other galleries which has a huge collection of various items from the Pakistan's Political history, Gandhara Civilization, Indus valley civilization, and Islamic Art. Some of the important items on display include sculptures, coins, miniatures, paintings, and rare manuscripts. There is a Ethnological gallery in this museum which has various life size statues of the various ethnicities living in the four major provinces of Pakistan.
