Hazuri Bagh is one of the most famous attractions and a picturesque garden in Lahore, Pakistan which is surrounded by the Lahore Fort from the east side, the Samadhi of Ranjit Singh from the north side, Badshahi Mosque from the west side and the Roshnai Gate from the southern part.
|
The center of this garden is ornamented by the Hazuri Bagh Baradari which was founded by the great ruler of Punjab, Raja Ranjit Singh. The Hazuri Bagh is acually an eye catching natural enclosure, located between the eastern gate of the Badshahi Mosque and the Alamgiri Gate of the Lahore Fort. This garden was constructed in 1813, during the reign of Maharajah Ranjit Singh, by the great ruler himself in order to celebrate the recovery of the world famous Koh-i-Noor Diamond from the Afghani emperor Shah Shujah.
The garden was built, planned and supervised by the famous contemporary Lahore architect, Faqir Azizuddin. The baradari which is now considered to be the main attraction of this garden was actually constructed with the consent of Ranjit Singh, by collecting marble stones from different mausoleums of Lahore and under this baradari or pavilion Maharaja Ranjit Singh used to conduct his court regularly.
The moment you are stepping in this garden, the reminiscence and nostalgia from the history shrouds you. Striving against the onslaughts of time this garden has definitely its actual charm up to a great deal but the nostalgic impact of this place will definitely mesmerize you. Still now every Sunday afternoon, people from various parts of Lahore do gather in this place and by their incantations from traditional Punjabi Sufi poetry and Punjabi Quissi, this place gets an altogether different environment.
