The Kashmiri Gate is one of the most important gates in the city in the Walled city of Lahore. According to various sources there are various theories about the creator of the Walled city of Lahore.

Among all these theories the most popular is that during the reign of the great emperor Akbar, the Walled city was constructed by the contemporary governor of Lahore, Malik Ayaz. According to this theory the Walled city of Lahore was a perfectly planned mud fort or in the local language a Kacha Kot.

The Kashmiri Gate, Lahore has been named due to its direction towards the Kashmir. This place can said to be one of the most important market places of the whole city of Lahore. The most famous thing about this market is that it is one of the biggest retail markets for the children shoes. In this place one of the famous girl’s colleges is located too. The girl’s college is built in the house (haveli) of a Shah and this house is an excellent example of Mughal architecture.
