Lahore Museum was established in 1894 in Lahore. It is one of the major museums of South Asia. It is also known as Central Museum and is located on The Mall. It is located opposite to the old University Hall.

The Lahore Museum contains some of the fine specimens of Mughal and Sikh doorways and wood work and contains a large collection of painting that can be dated back to Mughal, Sikh and British era. It is a mughal style building on the Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam. The Lahore Museum also has a collection of musical instruments, ancient jewelery, textiles, pottery and armory. There are relics from the Graeco-Bactrian times as well as some Tibetian and Nepalese work. The museum has a number of objects of Greco-Buddhist sculptures, Mughal paintings and Pahari paintings. The Fasting Buddha is one of the unique collection of the museum. This archaeological museum was opened in 1894 and contains examples of art and craft from the provinces of Punjab.
Mughal painting is a particular type of Indian painting generally confined to miniatures either as book illustrations or as single works to be kept in albums. Mughal painting emerged from persian miniature painting. Pahari painting is another form of Indian painting which developed and flourished during 17th to 19th century in certain sub-Himalayan areas of India, particularly Himachal Pradesh. Greco-Buddhism sometimes also referred as Graeco-Buddhism is the cultural unification between Hellenistic culture and Buddhism which developed between 4th century BCE and 5th century CE in the area that covers Afganistan and Pakistan.
