Basant (Kite Flying) Festival, Lahore is a Punjabi festival that marks the beginning of spring. The Basant celebration in Pakistan is centered in Lahore. People from all over the country as well as from abroad come to the city for the annual festivities. Kite flying competition takes place all over the city. The roof top of all houses in the city are crowded with people flying kite.

The ban eas lifted for two days in 2007 and was immediately reimposed as 11 people were killed by celebratory gunfire. Some peopek use metal thread for flying kites. Besids, being a life threat this creates a serious problem for WAPDA when the threat touches the live wires.
